What is Consignor?

A Consignor is the person or business that sends or ships goods to another party, typically to a consignee. The consignor is usually the exporter or seller responsible for dispatching the goods.

How It Works:

  • The consignor prepares the goods for shipment.
  • Shipping documents are created with consignor and consignee details.
  • The goods are handed over to the carrier or logistics provider.
  • The shipment is transported to the destination.
  • The consignee receives the goods upon arrival.

Benefits:

  • Establishes ownership and responsibility for the shipment.
  • Ensures clear identification of the sender in logistics documentation.
  • Facilitates tracking and customs processing.
  • Supports transparency in international trade.

Example:

A textile manufacturer in India exports fabrics to a retailer in Canada. The manufacturer is the consignor, while the Canadian retailer is the consignee receiving the shipment.
