What is Dock Receipt?

A Dock Receipt is a document issued by a shipping carrier or terminal operator acknowledging that goods have been received at the dock for shipment.

How It Works:

  • The exporter delivers goods to the port or dock.
  • The carrier or terminal operator verifies the cargo.
  • A Dock Receipt is issued as proof of receipt.
  • The document is later used to prepare the bill of lading.
  • Goods are loaded onto the vessel for shipment.

Benefits:

  • Serves as proof that goods have been received for shipment
  • Helps in preparing shipping documents
  • Ensures accurate cargo handling
  • Reduces disputes between exporter and carrier

Example:
