What is Mate Receipt?

Mate Receipt is a document issued by the ship’s officer acknowledging that goods have been received on board the vessel.

How It Works:

  • Goods are delivered to the ship.
  • The ship’s officer inspects the cargo.
  • A receipt is issued confirming loading.
  • It is later exchanged for a Bill of Lading.

Benefits:

  • Confirms receipt of goods on board
  • Acts as proof of loading
  • Supports issuance of transport documents
  • Helps in shipment verification

Example:

An exporter receives a Mate Receipt after goods are loaded onto a vessel at the port.
